Hebden Bridge, Mytholmroyd & The Calder Valley
Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd are towns which welcome walkers - and that's official. Both of these Calder valley towns were pioneers in the national Walkers are Welcome scheme, and you'll find waymarked trails from both town centres that will take you straight out into the heart of the stunning Pennine landscape.
This was the land where poet laureate Ted Hughes grew up. Beautiful moorland locations associated with the poet include the isolated standing stone known as Churn Milk Joan and the impressive Lumb Falls.
Both the Pennine Way and Pennine Bridleway are close at hand, waiting to be explored. Or why not tackle the Calderdale Way, a fifty-mile high-level circuit of this part of the south Pennines?
