Ilkley & Ilkley Moor

Watershed Walks - Cow and Calf Rocks

A full illustrated leaflet of this walk can be obtained from Manor House Museum in Ilkley www.bradfordmuseums.org  or from Ilkley Tourist Information Office www.visitilkley.com

You can start from the Cow and Calf car park on Hangingstones Road south of Ilkley.  The walk initially heads towards the quarry - a direct result of Victorian house building in Ilkley as people moved away from industrial centres to the cleaner air of small towns.  There is evidence of past quarrying in much of the stone. If you follow the extension on the map you can visit the various prehistoric carved stones on this part of Ilkley Moor and near Backstone Beck there is evidence of prehistoric human settlements, from a time when the present day moor was more wooded and the climate a little warmer than it is today.
